Review of The Power of One

Quirky piece about quirky politicians in a, you- guessed-it, quirky place. Unless you're up on Alaskan politics, it'll be hard to do more than hang on as he rapidly fingers his way through this string of worry beads, but some images stand out. The point is to encourage the listener to VOTE, and to amuse them on the way to the message, and that it does.

Review of Convenient Democracy

Interesting survey of current attempts to end the 40-year decline in voter participation levels and get registered voters to the polls. Fine range of voices (accents, energy levels, opinions), and information. Narrative zips right along. Makes me think about ways to get my non-voting acquaintances off their bums and into the voting booths.

Review of The Ears Have It! [excerpt]

Wee playful tribute to our very favorite art form: audio! Everyone should air this everywhere. Read so fast it's over almost before you absorb it, and I enjoyed it more the second hearing, so maybe everyone should air this everywhere twice.

Personable voices offering sometimes amusing take on first-time candidates experience of the electoral process. Good, quick piece, nicely reported.

Review of The Best Office Money can Buy

Basic report on the issue of self-financed candidates. Not the liveliest voices, and the sound feels a little compressed, but that's not overly distracting. Good to air in a big election year.

Review of Kids Corner: Youthful Vision

Excellent for explaining the elements of the Constitution for kids AND adults - some surprises but great for learning in lieu of "studying" the Constitution. Especially good for co-listening with kids - No dumbing down, but keeps it unencumbered without overly erudite tone, more like a favorite semi-hip elementary teacher. My son would definitely listen perhaps while drawing a picture of Thomas Jefferson...

Review of Welcome to Redistricting Hell

Given current redistricting conflicts across the country, this timely and timeless report is a useful overview of the issue. No music, just straight ahead narrative with various voices laying out their concerns about race, representation and voter apathy. A good piece to air prior to local voter registration deadlines.

Review of Adjusting to America

A news piece focusing on the growing Somali refugee population in Columbus Ohio. Covers the potential pitfalls faced by these new immigrants, and the challenges of introducing American-style democractic principles to a community with little or no experience of democracy in their home country.

Review of Democracy on the Block

A celebration of human nature using the lens of democracy and the very real voices and stories of NEW YORKERS both native and immigrant .
The hour is engaging - not heavily narrated at all. Content is simultaneously light and thoughtful .
The pace is lively and varied as the voices and nations. It is a mult-national flag - perfect for November's Democracy collaboration but even beyond that - like July 4th.
NB: although listed as humorous, it's more New Yorkous than funny.

very timely for November's contemplation of democracy in general but more specifically to NM Native American governmental endeavors.
A chock full, straightforward news feature.

Part commentary, part extended funder spot, makes you glad your in the business of public radio. Whether it will make the phones ring, that is another question...! HW.

Review of Forget Cinderella

Christine Wong, a first generation Asian-American, elegantly illustrates the cultural diffences between her and her parents. She also reveals their shared cultural traditions as she prepares for her wedding.

Wong addresses large issues with refreshing simplicity. Her commentary is ideal for Morning Edition or All things Considered.

an unusual approach to a travel picture not following a linear path...sort of ethereal..... based on the sounds of a Piazza in Bologna Italy.

Review of 10 years after L.A.

This is a provocative interview with Filmmaker Dai-Sil Kim. She's made the documentary "Wet Sand: voices From LA Ten Years After," which addresses race relations ten years after the riots.

This is a piece that has a lot of flexibility in terms of content. It could be aired on PRI's "The World," as it deals with many ethnic communities; the obstacles and cultural mores that immigrants face. It also sounds like something that would be on "Alternative Radio."

It would also be an appropriate piece to play on or around the Fourth of July or Martin Luther King Day as it addresses race relations, civil rights and discrimination.

This interview is dense, compelling and relevant
