Summary: My five year old cut off my three year old's hair. A few weeks later, I decided to interview them and get their explanations. Here's what they told me.
Your reaction to this incident, and especially your wife's, show your two littles girls the importance you place on appearances, particularly nice hair. Being a little more matter of fact and not yelling so much would have gone a long way in helping your children develop a healthy attitude about their appearance.
Given your reaction to your kids "bad" hair, how much tolerance are they going to show to another little girl who, perhaps has hair not as nice as their own? Will this surprise you?
I cut and styled my sister's hair when I was about 10 and she was 6. To this day, some 40+ years later she still won't let e near her hair. I don't blame her. Thanks for sharing.
It's midnight in San Diego and myself and my 16 year old son just listened to your interview and he said "I hope my daughters are like that" he's an only child and only know bits and pieces of the sibling experience. Thank you for sharing one of what must be thousands of precious moments with your girls
I've just come home from a very tiring day teaching Secondary School students (UK) ... this has cheered me up immensely.. I really can't stop laughing at 'touche' and 'butt' ... they say it so adorably !!!!!!!! Thank you (UK)
Oh. My. That was one of the funniest, most endearing things I've heard in a long time. I want to know your daughters, now, and when they grow up. Perfect interview. I borrowed it from someone's Facebook page, and several borrowed it from mine, so it's already semi-viral! Thanks!
I've listened to this five times and it makes me laugh so hard I cry!! Totally turned an awful day around!! You need to save this to play at each and every one of their graduations and weddings!!
I love the way they retell the story from beginning to end. And the imitation of the mother's response was probably perfect. I'll definitely share this w/my students. Again, the importance of having good storytellers to tell the story.
This piece is wonderful. It's universal, charming and laugh out loud funny. Decades ago, I said some of the very same things while defending my new 'independently styled' haircut. Well done, Jeff!

Kim, I'm sure somebody loves your critique of someone's parenting skills...
...meanwhile, the rest of us will enjoy a delightful little radio piece.
Lighten up.

You are setting a poor example.

Adorable
I remember when my (now 23) son had a playdate and his hair had a very peculiar look afterwards!

Awesome.
I love this. Your girls are hilarious. I love the explanation about how she needed to cut her sister's hair because it was almost "down to her tush."
I've already Facebooked this, etc. Thanks for the good listen.

Great Storytelling

I love this
"It was so, so hard to cut!" And the explanation for the cut was too much. "It was really itching my hips." How did you keep from laughing?
