We’re a program about youth ideas, youth creativity, and youth leadership in Columbus, Ohio. We believe that youth can make a difference for themselves and for their community through their voices! That is why our slogan is “Voice to empower,” because speaking out feels good and motivates change! Youth Beat airs every Monday evening at 7:30 p.m, on community radio station WCRS LP 102.1 and 98.3 FM.

YBR includes:

  • Youth’s thoughts on current trends affecting young people today
  • Feature stories of youth leadership, community involvement, and action
  • Youth perspectives and events and interviews
  • Music by youth musicians
  • Other special features

Mission:

  • Give youth the opportunity to voice their opinions on important issues
  • Enable youth to become resources for finding creative solutions to challenging problems
  • Empower youth to improve their schools, neighborhoods, communities, and the environment
  • Teach other youth how to get involved
  • Provide adults with ideas on ways they can get involved in youth activities
  • Educate youth and the greater Columbus to take a greater interest in their communities and create change!

YBR is produced by students of The Ohio State University and Upper Arlington High School, located in Columbus, Ohio. It is supported by the Department of Human and Community Resource Development at The Ohio State University, Ohio State University Extension, broadcasting classes at Upper Arlington High School, and Simply Living. Youth Beat Radio is under the direction of assistant professor, Kristi Lekies, PhD.
