Drift Chamber Boilerplate:
When it airs, the Drift Chamber is a weekly hour-long radio program on KSER
FM. The Drift Chamber mixes music with the spoken word to tell a particular story. The music aids in the telling by either subtle or obvious connections. We feel that music is as compelling (and sometimes more so) as the word in the telling of a story.
The music is made by musicians from anywhere on our planet without regard for genre, categories, or pigeonholes. The emphasis of the musical choice rests in the emotions felt and the connections made with the story.
The words are from writers, poets, artists, scientists, musicians, blue, pink, and white collared people whose stories have intrigued us. Their words take form in readings, interviews, and dramatizations.
In physics a drift chamber is used to search for next to nothing. Drift tubes can detect the chaotic, energetic, wisp known as the muon. The tubes are filled with gas and charged electrically. When a high-energy particle enters the tubes, the gas is
excited forming a recordable trajectory of the particle?s path.
In this drift chamber we can move from the present to the past and into the future. Words and music become the charged particles that trace their excitement through the chamber to tell the tale. We make connections and occasional separations. Some voices speak in metaphor while others are literal. Paradox and contradiction stands next to consistency and uniformity. The polished lies in the rough. Hide full description
