Beyond a Song

Beyond a Song with host Rich Reardin. Rich hosts this extraordinary weekly radio series that features discussions with World Class musicians, producers, audio engineers, etc., about their lives and making music.

Beyond a Song first appeared in 2005 with the original series "In Search of a Song" with host Jason Wilber (John Prine's longtime lead guitarist).

Beyond a Song would like to mention here our profound sadness at the passing of John Prine, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jason Wilber lent infinite support to the show theme, it's original production, and concept. His work with John Prine for a quarter of a century inspired the interest in talking with musical guests about the art of songwriting. Heretofore, our show is dedicated to John Prine and Jason Wilber, and continues to be inspired by their lives and music.

Specifically this show highlights the guest artist's early musical experiences and influences, their creative process, and the stories behind some of their songs. Beyond a Song also explores the lives of others who contribute to the making of music through recording, producing, or audio engineering.

Most pieces in the series are "Evergreen" and can be played any time.

With thorough in depth interviews, full length songs, Beyond a Song seeks to explore the minds and creative processes of great musical artists, and those behind the making of that music. Our interviews are conducted in a relaxed, conversational style by host, executive producer Rich Reardin. Reardin’s experiences as a professional producer, musician, and recording engineer, as well as his prior relationships and associations with many of the guest artists, allow him to relate to the interviewees not only as a journalist, but instead as a fellow musician and peer, technician, and songwriter.

This easy going peer-to-peer tone puts the guests at ease and creates a unique, fascinating atmosphere for discussion, frequently allowing conversations to venture into areas of the soul and psyche not often explored on other musical interview programs. At its best, Beyond a Song gives the listener the feeling of eavesdropping on an artist as they reflect on their inspirations, the secrets of their craft, and what makes their favorite music tick. Rounding out the program are exclusive live performances by the featured guest, recorded in the studio or in live concert performance. Genre's are typically singer/songwriter, rock, country, Americana, Bluegrass, and Folk. Each show is a unique experience highlighting vastly different styles of songwriting, songs and artists, as well as fascinating discussions with the people behind the scenes, such as producers, engineers, venues, etc.. We hope to bring something new about each artist, and really find out what it takes to write a song, whether from music history, or something brand new. We have also integrated our website with more in depth media applications to support and show more about the subject of a typical show. Hide full description
