Eat Your Greens
Series produced by Maeve Conran
Teaching good eating habits to grade school children is no easy feat, but an innovative program in Colorao does just that.
With childhood obesity rates soaring, the benefits of eating fresh fruit and vegetables every day is manifold. But try convincing elementary school children to give up their "happy meals", and you've got an uphill battle. One innovative nutrition program in Colorado does just that. Targeting schools in low-income neighborhoods, the program reaches out to whole families through the children. One school goes even further, by providing a community garden so that families in the neighborhood can grow their own vegetables. For this neighborhood, with one of the highest crime rates in Denver, the garden provides much more than fresh vegetables.
