APM's History Atlantic Public Media was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1993 (originally named Cape and Islands Community Public Radio) to create a new public radio service for Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. For seven years, founder Jay Allison and a band of zealots pushed this along at the local and federal level. In 2000, with WGBH-Boston supporting and adopting our effort, WCAI and WNAN finally went on the air. Amen. APM has now evolved into a production and training organization, focusing on public media, particularly public radio, founding projects like Transom.org, This I Believe, The Moth, and many others, including this one, PRX, The Public Radio Exchange.

Transom.org is the public radio website dedicated to helping people tell their own stories. Transom offers the tools, the techniques and the encouragement to get those stories on the air and help public radio fulfill its mission. From time to time Transom creates special hours for broadcast. These are generally stories we're not hearing on traditional broadcast outlets and often the voices of those we don't hear from at all.
