BEAT LATINO: Nuestra Música at the Library of Congress

This week's Beat Latino is a selection from the 20-some recordings that have been selected for their cultural, historic or aesthetic importance and are now preserved for posterity as part of the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress. This year two new songs from nuestra música were chosen —there's 25 recordings chosen every year— Juan Gabriel’s “Amor Eterno” and “Hector Lavoe’s “El Cantante”. Enjoy these audio treasures!

This week, Beat Latino celebrates immigrant workers, and honors the memory of Miguel Luna, Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, Dorlian Cabrera, José Maynor Lopez, Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandoval, Carlos LNU -- Immigrant workers fixing potholes in the middle of the night on the Francis Scott Key Bridge, named for the author of the Star-Spangled Banner. They were killed when the bridge collapsed. Songs from musicians with roots in their homelands - Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador are the selection of this week's Beat Latino. ¡Vivan all immigrant workers!
