Like having the BEST Grandpa tell you the BEST stories.
I love this series. And not completely because I interned on the production last year. The set-up of reading the journal entries could easily fall into a boring serious History Channel short. The accompaning music and the narrator's tone brings the pieces into a comfortable old-sweater-at-grandma's kind of feeling. "Day by Day" is informative, short, folksy and perfectly timed.
Much more interesting when it's coming from the Penguin's position than my own. This kind of piece is what makes me believe that public radio can find an audience with teenagers and twenty-somethings...an funny gimmick and surface with an incredibly relatable undercurrent of a story.
