Review of The Whistler

A professional piece, perfect for heading to the top of the hour.

Hardly earth-shattering, this piece forces the listener to smile, nod in time with the whistling, and pay attention; a decptively simple yet impressively effective piece of sound, cut to the perfect length - any longer, it could become boring, any shorter, and the listener wouldn't be satisfied.

And I probably shouldn't say this in such a serious forum, but...it's a heckuva lot of fun.

Editing...editing...

As amazing as the elicited answer is, the piece as it stands is almost useless for broadcast. The producer needs to sit down, write himself a coherent intro script, and completely remove his hesitant questioning. Even the smallest local station producer knows how to use an internal edit to remove the "to...um..." or "for...for..uh...," but in this case there is a completely raw piece bereft of any luster.

Where this might be expected from college radio, it's really unacceptable for the public radio listener, who whether he knows it or not is used to considerably more sophisticated fare. With an envelope focusing on the subject instead of the questioner creating a finished piece, this should be resubmitted to PRX.

The raw material is here; it needs polish.
