WERS has always presented a diverse mix of music, while serving as a training ground for students at Emerson College. During the week the station features a mix of music ranging from folk, rock, jazz, world, blues, soul, electronic and reggae. Weekend programming includes everything from children's music to showtunes to Jewish and Israeli music. In recent years, WERS has become well-known for its Live Music Weeks, fundraisers in which dozens of live performances are broadcast from the WERS studios. In 1998, 88.9 WERS was able to move into newly-renovated studios at 180 Tremont St. on Boston Common, where they broadcast today. 88.9 FM WERS can be heard in five New England states with a listenership of over 150,000 people each week. WERS is almost entirely student operated and has been voted the number one college radio station in the country by The Princeton Review for the past six years. In 2006 the station was named "News Station of the Year" by the Associated Press.
