WSIU Public Radio serves a region of rural southern Illinois known as "Little Egypt". The 30-county region is defined by the Mississippi, Ohio and Wabash Rivers. WSIU signed on the air in September of 1958. WSIU operates FM stations in Carbondale, IL; Mt. Vernon, IL; and Olney , IL. WSIU is also home to the Southern Illinois Radio Information Service providing reading services for the blind and visually impaired.
