What is the true sound of a city?

How do you capture it through the oral histories and vision of its servant citizens?

That’s the question raised by Intersections, a new documentary channel that launches its first series today that explores the extraordinary resilience of the Motor City.

Produced by LaToya Cross, Intersections: Detroit unlocks the story of this famous American city - allowing audiences far and wide to uncover its secret sauce through the vision of the exceptional individuals who are reimagining its past, present and future.

LaToya said, “It has been a honor collaborating and curating each chapter to share these very human, raw, and honest experiences of a people filled with spirit and song; fight and artistic expressions that encourage us to remember, analyze, reimagine, create our own sense of joy, and mobilize forward for better tomorrows. Working on this project was soul food and I look forward to the world hearing Intersections: Detroit. Thank you to every voice and visionary involved. All love.”

Intersections is the brainchild of artist Marcus Lyon, who started the project in 2018

Marcus Lyon - “I have never worked somewhere that has such a misrepresented narrative…The key to understanding Detroit is to not prejudge it… arrive, open your heart and listen… and be truly amazed at the depth and power of these people...”

The project is created from 100 audio recordings made for Lyon’s award winning i.Detroit book and exhibition. The work gathers together the memories, values and vision of individuals from an array of Detroiters, young and old, famous and unsung, from artists to scientists, activists to entrepreneurs and beyond. Including Mama “SHU” Harris of Avalon Village, Abdul “Duke” Fakir of the Four Tops, Charles Magee wise elder of the city's vibrant art scene, Martha “Music” visionary poet, Marcus Elliot sax giant of the next generation, Alice Thompson the champion of Black Family Development, Jamon Jordan Detroit’s Black history maestro, community organiser Misha Stallworth, John George the groundbreaking founder of the Detroit Blight Busters, and journalist/author Rochelle Riley.

Intersections, Detroit is brought to you with inspirational & insightful introductions by Detroit native & world renowned poet and performer Jessica care Moore setting the stage for an immersive journey through the city we all know as Motown.
