Every summer, the nation’s top musicians come together at the base of the majestic Teton Range in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to create and all-star Festival Orchestra for the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra under the leadership of Maestro Donald Runnicles. The Wall Street Journal has called the Grand Teton Music Festival, “One of the best places to hear classical music in the summer.”

The all new 2023 radio series, co-hosted by Sir Donald Runnicles and Jeff Counts, comes to you free and includes appearances by:

This year’s season showcases several “firsts” at the festival. The series provides a sampling of the first-ever commercial recording project for the festival, the Complete Beethoven Piano Concertos with Garrick Ohlsson, and conductor Donald Runnicles. These incredible performances were recorded in stereo and surround sound in the wonderful acoustics of Walk Festival Hall for Reference Recordings. In another first, the series has excerpts from the first staged opera presentation at the festival, La Bohème, with Nicole Cabell and Jose Simerilla Romero in the title roles. We also premiere Idyllium by Detlev Glanert, and showcase Keija Saariaho’s Ciel d’hiver and Lili Boulanger’s D’un matin de printemps. Augustin Hadelich plays unforgettable performances of both the Ravel Sonata and Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto.

Thomas Hooten gives an unbelievable performance of the John Williams Trumpet Concerto. And James Ehnes is unsurpassed in Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Donald Runnicles himself conducts sublime performances of the Shostakovich Tenth Symphony and the series ending epic Mahler Second Symphony, the Resurrection.

Live from the Grand Teton Music Festival is packed with performances that are not to be missed!

Maestro Runnicles’ career spans many continents, both in the opera house and on the symphonic stage. He serves as General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Principal Guest Conductor of the Atlanta Symphony and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, in addition to being Music Director of the Grand Teton Music Festival. He regularly guest conducts orchestras all over the world. Prior to his post in Berlin, he served as Music Director of the San Francisco Opera for 16 years.

With delightful tales and musical anecdotes from his storied career, Runnicles serves as host the of the program. He shares the mic with Jeff Counts—who has also hosted a film review show seen and heard throughout the West. Jeff also serves as General Manager of the Grand Teton Music Festival. Together they bring your audience music making at its best, from the Grand Teton Music Festival.

The series consists of 13 one-hour programs, which are available free of charge to your station. This series is available for broadcast Jan 1, 2022 and has a broadcast window of two years.
