melodically challenged creates an hour-long syndicated show every week that features poetry and alternative music revolving around a theme (past themes have included cars, death, and the color blue). Sponsored by the English Department of Georgia State University and written and produced by graduate and undergraduate students in the creative writing program there, each Fall and Spring semester melodically challenged offers 17 new and exciting shows. While we post the playlists on melodicallychallenged.org each week and announce each upcoming theme on our Facebook page, each show does not have to be played at that time and can be programmed whenever it fits a station's schedule. Every semester we offer general themes (this semester we'll have shows about memory, beauty, aging, parenting, and trains to name a few) and special educational shows (odes and sonnets). melodically challenged, where yesterday's poetry comes alive and today's poetry rocks!

We have permission by and feature poetry from major contemporary poetry audio archives such as the Academy of American Poets and From the Fishouse as well as a library of classic poetry from Naxos Audio. We also have contracts from 8 music labels. While we program for a college-aged audience and older, our mission is to introduce radio audiences to great contemporary and classic poetry and so we do not charge a fee to download our show.
