Cold cases are hard on families, hard to solve, and even harder to keep reporting on. But they're also hard to just let go.

On July 8th 1999, eight year old Durga Owens was reported missing from his family’s remote homestead, about an hour north of Fairbanks. After a day and a half search his body was recovered on the hillside near his home, and investigators ruled the death a homicide. Since that time, no charges have been filed. Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock has been looking into the events surrounding Durga's murder since 2005. In 2010 a grant from The Fund For Investigative Journalism helped produce a two-part series that aired on Alaska News Nightly in 2011 and 2012. Part one is a background of events leading up to Durga's murder. Part two highlights the difficulties of getting investigators to share information about cold cases.
