Messges from Japan

Blunt Youth Radio is trying to give Japanese people a way to tell the story of their experience following the March 11, 2011 Tohoku Earthquake. Messages from Japan is gathering and sharing the stories of regular Japanese people since the devastating earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis.

The earthquake and tsunami that struck Northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011 and the nuclear disaster that followed have caused immeasurable devastation.

Blunt Youth Radio is reaching out to Japanese people in both Japan and the USA to ask them to answer questions about their experience. We want to provide a way for regular Japanese people to share their thoughts and stories about this event that has affected every Japanese person in some way, great or small.

Using Skype and iPhone apps like Monle, we are interviewing Japanese people in the USA and in Japan. We are also interviewing people in Japan who are not Japanese. Do you know a Japanese person we can interview? Are you living in Japan or is someone close to you? Were you there when the earthquake struck?

We are recording stories in English and in Japanese. In addition to making these features available on PRX, we are also sharing them with Japanese community radio stations.

Please join us. Contact Messages from Japan and help us get these stories heard: cholman@usm.maine.edu or find Messages from Japan on Facebook.

Special thanks to Producers: Kerry Seed, Akinori Adachi, Jessica Lockhart, Colin Kelley, Theo Lichter, Iris SanGiovanni, Isaac High, graphic designer, Eleanor Graf and composer, Damon Holman. Hide full description
