Recently, The New York Times had an "Unplugged" experiment challenging people to unplug from their favorite media devices for a period of time. Around this time several Y-Press reporters became interested in how teens are using media and started to do some digging.
Today’s younger generation, which some are calling Generation M, are able to access different forms of media simultaneously, packing 10 hours of media use into just 7 hours of time (you can blame – or credit – smart phones and increased access to the Internet for such multi-tasking). According to the Pew Internet and American Life Project, 63 percent of teenagers go online daily, and more then half say they text daily. The reporters also read up on a recent Nielsen survey that argued that understanding how teens use media is critical for economic, civic, cultural and social advancements. This same survey says teens may be online less then adults but they spend more time with other media and technology.
