A 5-part series of pieces exploring the history, legacy and structure of the American musical

This project was conceived by ArtsEdge (the educational website of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts) as a way to teach young people about many aspects of musical theater. Using examples of the best that Broadway musicals have to offer, educator Heather Nathans talks about the history of musical theater in America and also the structure and elements of a musical (do you know what an "I Want" song is?), musical theater's role in making social commentary and its legacy. We also talk with people who have written musicals in a how-do piece.
