240428 Accordions In Rock Music

From Jamie Dell'Apa | Part of the Searching For The First Rock And Roll Song series | 02:57:00

Bobby_poe__of_the_poe_kats__small This week is a deep dive into the endless amount of bands who put out one or two 45 RPM record then disappeared. Depending on your definition of "rock and roll" any of these records could have been the first rock and roll song and after 70 years, all of them retain the spark we now associate with us, "The Rock and Roll Generation." Also seven early rock and roll songs featuring the accordion both of which are covers of Chuck Berry songs. The accordion remakes the song with much richer texture and energy than even the Chuck Berry original, (1) Maybelline by Mondo and the Chili Peppers and (2) Promise Land by Johnny Allen.
