California’s Megan’s Law was enacted nearly 25 years ago as a result of the rape and murder of seven-year-old Megan Kanka. The online database provides the public with an offender’s name, picture and address including their specific offense. Freelance journalist Jed Alexander takes a closer look at one registrant after discovering a personal connection to the story itself.

Even in complicated times, we tend to forget the simplicity of, “why we protest” even if the issue is a no-brainer or has complicated edges. We know the moment feels right and being present and supportive makes sense to the individual. In her book, “Unsafe At Any Meal: What the FDA Does Not Want You To Know About the Foods You Eat,” former food investigator for the Food and Drug Administration, Dr. Renee Joy Dufault, provides insight about the food we eat including the toxic substances such as heavy metals and pesticides contaminating many of these same products. At one point, Dr. Dufault was a whistleblower during her time at the FDA, having discovered toxic mercury residue in plumbing systems at food manufacturing plants and in processed foods.

ID number 78002 belonged to then young resident and physician, Dr. Bernard Rosenfeld at Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center, where in the early 1970’s he blew the whistle on the use of forced sterilization on Chicana women.

In 1999, former FBI profiler and special agent, Jane Turner, blew the whistle on the cover-up of child sex crimes on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota. The highly decorated and award-winning agent also worked on famous cases such as The Green River Killer, and was involved in the capture of Soviet spy and American, Christopher Boyce, known as one-half of the "Falcon And The Snowman."
