Haunted_mansion_halloweeen_valot_small A 43-year-old haunts the grounds of Disneyland, but it's not a ghost.  Walt Disney himself oversaw the beginnings of the iconic Haunted Mansion ride.  But he never saw it brought to life.  Reporter Susan Valot takes a look at the not-so-haunted history of the ghostly ride.  The story features Disney historian Tom Fitzgerald of Walt Disney Imagineering and the ghoulish ghosts of the Haunted Mansion.

Millions of people from around the world have ridden the ride, which opened August 9, 1969.  It paved the way for an afterlife, of sorts.  Imagineers eventually created similar haunted mansion rides at Walt Disney World in Florida, at Tokyo Disneyland in Japan and at Disneyland Paris in France.
