The Story of a Young Man: Pope John Paul II

From Loyola Productions, Inc. | Part of the Kaleidoscope series | 46:52

Karol Wojtyla's path to papacy is laid out in this episode of Kaleidoscope.

Pope_john_paul_ii_small From his days in Poland studying linguistics and acting through the interruption of WWII, the future pope exhibited a deep spirituality that was noticed by many. While the Germans occupied Poland, Karol Wojtyla spent time in an “underground” seminary to begin his studies for priesthood. After the occupation, he worked tirelessly with his fellow seminarians to study, rebuild their seminary, and serve the poor of the city.

Beginning with a dramatic recounting of his election to the papacy, Mike Whorf traces Pope John Paul II's life and experiences growing up in Poland. "The Story of a Young Man" includes newsreel clips, audio footage of Adolf Hitler speeches, and a dramatic musical score.

NOTE: The late Pope John Paul II was Beatified by the Catholic Church on May 1, 2011.
