Virtuoso Voices - Jean-Yves Thibaudet (Devil or Virtuoso)

From Listener Directed Productions, Inc. | Part of the Virtuoso Voices(tm) series | :21

Numerous stories document the virtuosic piano skills of Franz Liszt. But even in those days, there were conspiracy theorists who suggested Liszt's highly advanced skills came from the Devil himself. For the first and last word on Franz Liszt's demonic control of the instrument, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet says, "listen." Use this 20 second clip to introduce pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet playing almost any recording by Franz Liszt. Scroll down to read the Suggested Host Intro, Outro and a transcript.

SUGGESTED HOST INTRO
Numerous stories document the virtuosic piano skills of Franz Liszt.  But even in those days, there were conspiracy theorists who suggested Liszt's highly advanced skills came from the Devil himself.  For the first and last word on Franz Liszt's demonic control of the instrument, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet (ZHhahn-Eve TEE-bo-deh) says, "listen."

CLIP TRANSCRIPT
"I think for me the proof is really what he wrote for the piano, because we know that what he was writing, he was performing.  I don't know, it looks like you need six hands to play some of his pieces.  And you're like, I mean your hair is rising, say 'how could anybody in the world be even able to play that?' And he certainly probably was playing it.  Again, we were in front of a talent that was so extraordinary that apparently he could play like nobody ever played the piano."

SUGGESTED HOST OUTRO
Franz Liszt managed to get his piano virtuoso work done without any outside help.  That was pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet (ZHhahn-Eve TEE-bo-deh), who's enjoyed a long association with Franz Liszt, and here he is playing Liszt's (insert music title).
