The Business with Bees

From KSVR Studios: Skagit Valley Radio | 57:48

An exploration of the causes behind honeybee population declines, featuring discussions with beekeepers and scientists.

Business_with_bees_240_small With all of the buzz about bees lately, KSVR's Jodie Buller and Alex Westcott took to the fields, the farmers' market, and the research labs in an effort to understand why bee populations are struggling.
This hour long documentary examines the threats to pollinator health from the perspective of Skagit Valley beekeepers, scientists, and the USDA.  Explore cutting edge research into bee genetics and the neuroscience of chemical exposure, as well as the impacts of environmental degradation and modern management practices.

This is a production of KSVR Studios in Mount Vernon, Washington.

Bees: The Threatened Link in Food Security (Encore)

From Making Contact | 29:01

Honey bees help pollinate 1 in every 3 bites that we eat. They are vital in our agricultural industry and essential for the survival of the almost 7 billion people who inhabit this planet. And, as the world's population continues to grow so does our reliance on honey bees. But most pollinating insects throughout the world are endangered today. Including the honey bee. On this edition, honey bees fight to survive amidst a rapidly changing landscape filled with pesticides and parasites. We'll learn the latest about colony collapse disorder and hear from beekeepers, researchers and gardeners who are trying to protect them.
