Review of Family Separation

I didn't know that seperation through immigration was such a big problem after the families reunite, but this is a good topic for a piece.
At the start of the piece when you hear Jose's brother and then he tells you why he is acting like that was really cool.
It was a little rough following the story of the whole thing is the only trouble I had, but its still a good piece.

Review of Family Separation

As an immigrant I have heard stories similar to the ones Jose describes, both from the parents’ and children’s perspectives. I kept waiting to hear more about Jose’s experience. Having so many different characters was a bit overwhelming, but they help emphasize the scope of the problem. A more descriptive script would strengthen the narration, frame the actualities better, and give it a more polished feel. Jose started with a light, almost humorous tone before he hit us with the tear jerking quote from Teresa Vazquez, and then concluded on a hopeful note. This piece illustrates the realities of the immigration process, and should be aired, not only in Washington D.C. where politicians can hear it, but all across the nation.

Review of Family Separation

This piece offers insight into the lives of immigrant youths and their parents. Its style is very simple, but shows great care and sensitvity. Whoever is working with these kids is doing a great job.

Review of Family Separation

I sm just going to say flat out that this piece, most of it anyway, is good. This is a very interesting topic, however I feel it was a bit to flat and monotone which turned me off a little. It could of used some background music. And I know the narrator is foreign but more coaching could of been done to make the reading a little smoother, not so much because it was unpleasing to the ears, but because it made me feel like the narrator was struggling to much, and listners might pick that up alot and begin to focus on the narrators ability to speak and read english. Overall though this piece is good, just add music.

Review of Translating

This is an example of a piece where it was the subject that got my attention - the statistic is amazing - there is one snippet with a young girl talking about her mother having to know what everything means, even about car insurance when she doesn't have a car - plus the story of a young boy who just stopped talking in school and here's why - those two moments stick out. The piece overall is professional, if a bit too classically "trac and ac" - (which tends to make my ears turn off) - so maybe next time make more of the narrator's own impressions. Why not? I love the music of his voice/accent - nice to hear this voice, one that's not exactly like every other voice - this could go into the news time to break things up.
