Review of Vanished

Call it a snapshot, an audio postcard, sudden (non)fiction--whatever it is, it's terrifically hypnotic. The writing, the delivery, and the music just suck you into the world of the narrative. If I heard something like this in the car I'd probably miss exits and veer into lanes that are, you know, not the ones I'm supposed to be in. That's my kind of radio.

You should also listen to "Letter." I'm kind of hooked on Mueller's seductive and gently Germanic voice.

Review of Vanished

It feels like a haiku written by David Lynch. It’s about impermanence, death, alienation… Not exactly Saturday morning fair, but what’s special about it is the ambiance it imparts. It would be such a nice fit with moody nighttime programming… thrown into some music. Mueller’s pieces can be scattered through out the night like confetti. Dark, leaden confetti.

Review of Vanished

I think Monika Mueller could develop an interesting kind of commentary, a sort of Snapshot from Abroad. This piece and one she did called Wednesday 3PM have an exotic, mysterious appeal. They're not about anything so much as musings about things seen and unseen, heard and overheard. They're edgy and writerly and suggestive, and they stay with you the way curious images do. Her accent and sexy voice and the music these pieces are mixed with lend a kind of foreign, strange perspective that I think listeners would respond to and look forward to.
