Good piece, slightly flowery though, makes me fear Capoeira becoming a mindless activity to people. I hope all those people travelling to Bahia take away respect for Capoeira and dont allow it to become a wholesale product you can whip off a shelf.
Im living in Brazil now, and love Capoeira, and this is a wonderful vingette of what Capoeira is really like to foreigners.
Lots of good sound of music, 'playing Capoeira' and Brazilian scenes. A good introduction into Capoeira for the listener.
This is not a narrative though of a tourist endeavor at going to Brazil to play Capoeira, but a description of how Capoeira is changing and Bahia, Brazil is reacting to international popularity of the sport, which I find preferable.
Wow, y'all know about the KungFu, Karate, Tai Chi martial arts and of course the public radio junkies are into the Yoga but have you heard of Capoeira? I have not and dang if I have not done all the previous martial arts...
The body work folk and general sports minded will be fascinated while also drawing the music lover and historically minded listener. And the sounds are just juicy with life.
Very Savvy-Travel-ish (it's aired there already). "Capoeira Tourism" has excellent sound and plenty of information. This is your standard PR fare, well-produced, a great listen, engaging.
This piece will capture your public radio audience perfectly. In an afternoon slot on the drive home from work, your listeners will be happy to find a piece with the classic public radio sound.
You probably will have to chop the end, "... for the Savvy Traveler."
