Review of Year End Show - A Tribute to the Life & Music of Don Ho (Full Version, NO-Hole)

MOST IMPROVED AND OUTSTANDING! Kept me listening all the way to the end and I'd like to hear more.

I tend to like the style of the program's host who I've been monitoring over the years. If an award for ''Most Improved'' could be given, I think it would go here.

On some of the programs in the past, though I felt the host did an outstanding job, it seemed to me that perhaps he was doing all of the work -- the interviewing, the recording, the writing, the editing, the production and post production. I say that because I could occasionally hear the extent of the work effort in the voice -- maybe working to make deadlines. In this one, however, I hear a relaxed yet professional voice that's easy to listen to. And, I am now hearing very much the ''core value'' quality that is desired today in public radio -- but without sounding overly casual as too many do today without quality cerebration or wit.

The host seemed to bring out the best from Don Ho -- stayed right with him and on top of the interviewing -- and did so very well without overshadowing him. The subject matter seems especially timely for an end-of-the-year, new year's eve special (very relevant with Don Ho having died during the year).

The fundraising promos to encourage new public radio membership or renewal of one's membership before the end of the tax year at midnight new year's eve fast approaching was not only potentially very helpful to all of public radio but was very well handled with good balance. I would like to hear more programming done by this host.

Production wise, the musical pieces were expertly fit into the program and very well balanced for a program with exceptionally good flow. When would be the best airing time for this program? I would like to hear it most afternoon or evening several hours before midnight on New Year's eve as producers recommended; however, I might also enjoy it even on Christmas day too.

Review of My Classical Music Appreciation Teachers

A Wonderful Mini-Appreciation of Music Course done in a light-hearted and refreshing vein. I don't know what else to say but I liked it and I think as a drop-in, it would perk up any hour of straight classical musical. Very well done. I think I will enjoy hearing this again.

Review of Black Gold -- Unique Summary of Black History -- from Servitude to Success on Wall Street & Musical Halls of Fame (In-Show Dedication to Memory of Coretta Scott King)

A-PLUS!!! Play it again Sam! I've listened twice and still want to hear this one again.

I am contacting our local PRPD to request this to run this weekend and next week here. Your research people really did their homework well.

I never knew all the facts you whipped off in your program about the slave trade. The things you revealed about the underground railroad and the big business successes of Blacks are very interesting.

You were obviously in the Park at Tuxedo Junction as you said. You probably had your microphones plugged into the old tube preamps there -- because they had that warm tube sound but also just a few times times the slightly scratchy sound of old-style tube preamps, but that's OK! Your host speaks very, very clearly and with good pacing and enthusiasm and made up for the old microphone preamplication sound from being in a remote old park studio. He made it sound like Hollywood or New York.

Your special guest interview revealed something I had heard rumor of but hearing it from an actual member of Duke Ellington's Orchestra from the Blue Note in Chicago proved it for me -- especially with the detail that his traveling train hotel was provided to him by his Jewish friend Irving Mills.

That was an amazing revelation. I nearly fell right out of my chair -- but I know he spoke truly on this. What a way to overcome their Jim Crow hotel problems. Truly amazing!

I checked most of your facts and figures and your research people hit it right on with every one of them. The detail was incredible and yet your host handled it so that it did not bog down.

I kept listening to see if the facts would eventually overpower or overwhelm the presentation -- but no, I've got to give you an A-Plus and I want to hear your show again. I believe that both blacks and whites will benefit from the little-known facts in this show.

I enjoyed the few great and vintage musical pieces. The crowd almost overwhelmed what I believe was your live-in-the-park piece at one point -- but that was OK. It was lively and sparked up the show right there.

Your people handled everything very well in this -- even the near flubs for a live in-the-park hosted, professional presentation. The life and enthusiasm in this gives it a certain polish and I want to hear you again -- even this same one again. Exceptionally good!

Someone Deserves an Award! Good Forethought for Listeners!

Man, I wasn't even thinking of my taxes until I heard and saw this -- and then realized oops! I need to get my net income down by a few hundred dollars to keep me out of a certain bracket and you had just the perfect charities for me to give it to -- including my Public Radio of which I am a member but I'll be glad to give them more voluntarily through the good encouragement here.

Yes, your whole series should be played at all hours of the day. This is a real benefit to people during this business holiday madness where the year could slip right by and you forget to get off those year-end deductions and sock a little more money into the college fund deduction for the kids.

Your host executed the presentation perfectly. I wouldn't change a thing about it and if you're a station, I would run these drops day and night over and over for the next 48.

Very good!
Very timely!
Very thoughtful!

Review of The Thanksgiving Hour 2005

Outstanding Program! Top Quality! This is radio the way it should be!

This program exemplifies the kind of lively, timely, well-researched program I like to hear! Par excellence on the hosting!

The musical pieces were expertly fit into the program and very well balanced for a program with exceptionally good flow. The live USAF performance recordings were perfect for the day. The new releases aired in the program were exceptional.

In short, the presentation of this program cannot be beat. This is the best program I've heard in a long time.
