Overcoming drug addiction: From dropout to distinguished scholar

Homeless. Malnourished. Addicted. Here is a story of a teenager from a traditional family in the Deep South who made some choices that ultimately led him to the brink of death. We learn about his setbacks in rehabilitation and the people who helped him get to where he is today: a distinguished scholar in the biochemistry and molecular biophysics Ph.D. program at University of Pennsylvania. This two-part feature examines drug addiction from multiple perspectives—addict, counselor, parent and teacher—to provide listeners with a more complex understanding of how one person’s addiction can affect and inspire every life it touches.
