The UpBeet Gardener Series

Series produced by Marion Owen

2-minute, M-F modules on the meaning of plants in our lives.

The magazine ad for Aveda personal care products reads like this: “Imagine a world without plants. No flowers, no trees, no rolling hillsides, no fields. No paper, no cereal, no honey.”

No kidding. People and plants are entwined by threads that are woven tightly into the fabric of life, and in ways that are often subtle and unexpected. For example, plants provide the pleasure of food, flowers and fall colors. And our hemoglobin bears a striking similarity in structure to chlorophyll. People who garden find new friendships with neighbors and a walk in the woods provides relief from tension.

The UpBeet Gardener series celebrates these people-plant connections by linking them to science, art, history, famous people, nutrition, current events, lifestyle issues, trends, fads and more. The series, which earned two Bronze Awards of Achievement from the Garden Writers Association, is produced by Marion Owen, co-author of the NYT bestseller, “Chicken Soup for the Gardener’s Soul,” the show began airing in May 2004.

Please listen to the following demos:
