Mississippi Blues Project

A series of concerts from the Philadelphia PA area by blues artists from Mississippi

The Mississippi Blues Project was a year-long set of concert events bringing contemporary Mississippi blues musicians, who would otherwise not be seen in concert in Philadelphia, to the area to share their music and cultural heritage. The project includes an associated website (http://www.mississippibluesproject.org) with concert audio, video, and commentary.

The project takes note of Mississippi's singular place in blues history, and rock 'n' roll history as well, while underscoring the hard realities that still face present-day blues artists in the Magnolia State, and the lack of widespread public awareness of their music.

The concerts in the series include:

The Cedric Burnside Project and Big George Brock, August 19, 2012, at the Philadelphia Folk Festival
Jimmy "Duck" Holmes and Terry "Harmonica" Bean, October 22, 2012, at The World Cafe Live in Philadelphia
Robert Belfour, and Robert "Bilbo" Walker and Anthony "Big A" Sherrod, February 15, 2013, at The World Cafe Live in Philadelphia
The Homemade Jamz Blues Band, and Super Chikan and the Fighting Cocks, May 17, 2013, at The World Cafe Live in Philadelphia

The Mississippi Blues Project Concert Series offers parts of these shows and some conversation with some of the artists in a set of hour-long radio programs.

The Mississippi Blues Project has been supported by The Pew Center For Arts And Heritage. Hide full description
