Great controversy erupted in Montreal over a cultural development project that planned to expropriate the businesses lining a seedy strip of centreville’s main boulevard. A group of activists formed in protest of the city’s project, advocating that Café Cleopatra is indeed a cultural institution of Montreal exotic dancers and all. Kaitlin Prest offers a portrait of the cultural communities thriving in the famous showbar.
