The Heart of the West examines the issues related to the "greening" of America's energy economy, including solar power, transmission lines, and issues related to oil and gas drilling.

Jimmy Carter touted the switch to renewable energy sources back in 1977, but it took economic meltdown and global warming on a grand scale before the US was ready to listen. The topic is now on the minds of many, including our new president. As the US prepares to move from burning fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy, it is important to understand the types of renewable energy alternatives and the ways that those systems can help deal with global warming and an economically challenging environment. This show examines some of the problems related to an energy infrastructure based on burning fossil fuels, and examines the ways that we can move to a greener and sustainable energy economy.
