Hillside_small A vicious cycle of rising rents, disappearing affordable housing and evictions plagues the city of Los Angeles. But the residents of Hillside Villa are refusing to leave their homes. This piece documents the vacillating journey the renters of one apartment have endured.

In this radio piece, I ask my mom about something in my culture that I’ve always taken for granted: a Chinese dish called dumplings. Through this, I learn a little bit more about my parents that I otherwise would not have known. I also discover why this dish was and still is significant to my parents and realize the importance of food to keeping culture alive.
