Cornerhouse1_small This week on the Chenango Sessions, we revisit an 8 July 2019 performance by the Boston-based quartet, Corner House. The band was traveling from Rochester to Lancaster, and stopped through Binghamton for the night. We recorded this set after breakfast around a single mic in my living room. There’s nothing quite like sitting in the rocking chair and drinking morning coffee while Louise Bichan (fiddle and banjo), Ethan Hawkins (guitar and voice), Casey Murray (cello), and Ethan Setiawan (mandolin) weave their exquisite Irish-Scottish-Appalachian-Bluegrass influenced tunes a couple feet away. I’m so pleased to be able to share the fruits of that lovely morning with you!

Tim Eriksen | Shook Twins | Jonathan Pinkey

From Andru Bemis | Part of the Chenango Sessions series | 58:00

Ethnomusicologist Tim Eriksen, sister duo the Shook Twins, and pianist Jonathan Pinkey share recordings from their homes.

1200px-shook_twins_wiki_photo_small Our first set of recordings this week is from Tim Eriksen, who set up a microphone for us on the front porch of his home in Amherst, Massachusetts. Tim is probably best known for his work on the "Cold Mountain" soundtrack or for his 2010 Grammy nomination with Afro-Cuban pianist Omar Sosa. He's an ethnomusicologist, professor, and a student of Eastern European folk music. He's also the only musician to have shared stages with both Kurt Cobain and Doc Watson. -- www.timeriksen.com

Then, we jump across the US to the Shook Twins, who have holed up with their parents in Sandpoint, Idaho. Identical twins Katelyn and Laurie Shook have been performing together since 2004, and have made fans of everyone who's heard them along the way, including Mason Jennings, Laura Veirs, and Neil Gaiman. -- www.shooktwins.com

To close out the session, we have a couple pieces from pianist, Jonathan Pinkey, from Tulsa, Oklahoma. We made these recordings in my living room just a couple days before the pandemic shut down New York State.

My guest this week on the Chenango Sessions is a fellow Michigan native, Tony Lucca, whose path as a singer-songwriter has been unusual, to say the least. Tony started in the public eye as a cast member on the Mickey Mouse Club, at the age of fourteen. From there, he moved to Los Angeles with his then-girlfriend Keri Russell to pursue acting and music. He toured with fellow Mouseketeers JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake as the opening act for *NSYNC, then progressed to third place in the 2012 season of The Voice. Tony now lives in Nashville with his wife and son, and has been spending time during the pandemic sharing twice-weekly live stream shows from home. He shared some of the best of these recordings for this episode of the Chenango Sessions.
