In May 1851, a group of women gathered at a conference in Akron, Ohio after having unsuccessfully petitioned the Ohio Constitutional Convention of 1850 to 1851 to give women the right to vote. In the audience, and poised to give what would become her most recognized speech, was Sojourner Truth. This production features a dramatic reading of Truth’s famous “Ain’t I a Woman Speech,” which spoke to both the struggle for equality for women and the fight to end slavery. Actor Charles Dutton provides narration.
