Playing with Fire, Persian-style

From KUOW | 02:03

Seattle's Iranian community celebrates the New Year by jumping over fire.

Souri_small In Persian culture, the New Year begins on the first day of spring. Most of the ceremonies are lively, but one particularly so: Chahar Shanbeh Souri. ["char SHOM-bay SOO-ree"] Basically, it consists of people taking turns jumping over a fire. In Seattle, hundreds from the Iranian community gather at the beach to keep the tradition alive.
