Tim Brooks and David Giovannoni compiled and organized the grammy-award winning collection Lost Sounds: Blacks and The Birth of the Recording Industry. This interview is part 3 of 3. Parts 1 and 2 covered the earliest history of commercial recording and looked at how African American artists laid the foundation for blues, jazz, gospel and rock and roll. The impact of black music on American popular culture also began to take on the form of social change. In part three, we hear about the changes to the face of black American entertainment in the early 20th century and what that can tell us about contemporary times.
