I was a merchant marine officer commuting to vietnam for three years during the war. i at least did not have a radio that i could listen to the armed forces radio, so i listened to tapes brought from the us. i heard these songs later and appreciated their tone and timelessness. thank you .
i tend to think of these musicals as dated and fixed in some time when i was only 65. the good thing is that i can, reluctantly change. and now i am 73 years younger. this is very confusing, messing with the space time continuum. back to the future again.
Amy Beach was favourite for BBC Radio 3 for years, so that I knew of her compositions, but I didn't know that she was an American. Bright's concerto is cracklessly beautifully constructed, and therefore the recording presented here. I'm amidst of listening so that I don't comment on the British composers who are featured in the second half.
You are correct -- this one is very special.
( And I note that Rogers & Hart seemed to like the phrase "Babes in Arms" -- it turns up again in the song "You Took Advantage of Me" -- see the things I learn from your wonderful program?)

Saw that Hanif is the host of your special episode of Object of Sound from PRX and Sonos and saw our show listed as a related show because we interviewed Hanif back in 2018.
In the show, Hanif reads an excerpt from his book, "They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us," and talks about his love for French Fries!
I think your audience would love to hear the interview.
